About Uphold the Garnet & Gold
Uphold the Garnet & Gold is a new tradition on Florida State University's campus, kicked off at the 2010 New Student Convocation. This program is meant to encourage civil behavior around campus and in the Tallahassee community. Uphold the values of Florida State University by exhibiting good sportsmanship at athletic events, being open to hearing differing opinions and ideas, and respecting the values and views of others.
To spread the message of Uphold the Garnet & Gold, several gold coins have been given out to various members of the University community. When these people see someone acting in a way that upholds the values of Florida State, they will give a gold coin to that person. That person in turn will then pass it on to someone else when they do something that upholds the Garnet & Gold. The goal is not to hold on to a coin, but to pass it on, and then do something to receive another one - to "pay it forward."
If you receive a coin, or give a coin, let us know! Soon this site will allow you to post a shout-out to the person you give a coin to - but for now, you can go to our Facebook Page, become a fan, and then post on our Facebook wall when you give a coin to someone - you can even tag them to let their friends know why they Uphold the Garnet & Gold!
