Homecoming Fashion Show Ever at FSU
Simon says... "Fashion is her passion"
On Tuesday Oct. 27th THE AFFINITY made history with the first HOMECOMING FASHION SHOW EVER!
The show turned out to be a success, as all the hard work and fundraising paid off.
I work with the Affinity behind the scenes and it is a great alliance with all those involved...
The Affinity is a FSU alliance of people who built an organization that is set in place for people interested in music and fashion. It gives people an opportunity to fulfill their dreams by networking. The fashion show was a chance for models and designers to be noticed and put the Affinity on the map, so people would know what they had to offer and what they were about.
The fashion show consisted of models, designers, hairstylist, dancers, and make- up artists. Most of the clothes in the show were hand made by local students.
For fundraising, we would go out on gameday Saturdays with our signs and buckets to ask the people in cars to donate. We would explain to the people what we were trying to accomplish and sometimes give a quick preview of our performances. We had fun because we were getting to know each other and raising up to $800 in one day.
I was a model for the fashion show, but that is not what I am trying to pursue as a career. I am in the organization to make new connections and do whatever comes my way. I am very open-minded when it comes to learning new things, because before Affinity, I definitely did not consider myself a "model." Little did I know that with some practice and dedication, I could be a model.
The Alliance is dedicated to its members and the people in it love each other. We are like one big happy family and are always welcoming to new members.
FSU Football
Simon says... Are You Ready for some Football!
For those freshman who were excited for the football season I apologize. Unfortunately, our team has only won a few games this season, so far, but I hope no one has lost their school spirit.....
As for me, football is not one of my major passions, so my dreams are not crushed...
But I know they will turn it around and we will be the football team we once were!
Let's get excited about Homecoming! We can beat those Wolfpack!
Hard Times
Simon Says....when life throws you lemons, you make lemonade.
I have had the most difficult two weeks I could imagine.
Two weeks ago I found out my stepmother had passed away and although we were not that close it hurt because my sisters no longer had parents. Our father had passed away five years ago so for them to be ten years old and seven years old, I know it must be a lot.
My classes also seem to have gotten a lot harder in the last several weeks, it is hard to keep my focus with studying because of the thoughts going through my mind. But, instead of me losing hope and taking off school for a year, I have embraced this tragedy. I am going to tutoring for my classes so I can get my grades back on track, and I am also speaking to mentors.
This has definitely been a life altering event for me and those close to me, but with the help of my Florida State family and my friends supporting me, I know I will be able to redeem myself.
C.A.R.E 2009 Summer program
Simon says... This summer was definitely an experience.
Besides the mandatory meetings everyday that made me run to the dining hall and interrupt my study time, the summer was great. Oh, and besides the late night essays and study groups, the summer was great. And let's not forget the studying I had to have every week, but besides all of that the SUMMER WAS GREAT!
The night life and weekends is what kept me going because I could always look forward to an event with free food and a party with a "good" DJ.
But, for those professors and CARE counselors reading this...I did not forget that my homework had to be done before I went out. The only thing I can say was that I didn't always finish my readings ahead of time, but hey I had the whole weekend, right? (It was this thought that created the all nighters.)
One thing I learned that was most important was to complete all my assignments on time and meet lots of new people. Doing that I know I can succeed and now I am ready to begin my freshman experience this Fall.
Welcome
Simon says.... Welcome!
Welcome to the many thoughts and adventures of me, as I give you a glimpse into my world!
I am a communication major from Tampa. I am a freshman (although I don't feel like one because I started this previous summer). I am the oldest of five sisters and a first generation student, which means I must be an example for my siblings (I am so thrilled). My journey began this summer through the C.A.R.E program, where they really cared about us (no really, I'm serious).
I look forward to keeping you updated on the my adventures! Stay tuned!
